Update for DataMate USB-Chip Firmware
Problem
The problem: The 64-bit versions of Vista and Windows now require "signed drivers" for USB ports. These versions of Windows will not accept the uncertified drivers supplied by DGSI. To address this problem, we have decided to use the solution provided by FTDI, the USB chip manufacturer.
Solution
Solution for new DataMates: All new DataMate readouts will use USB chips with an ID from FTDI. We will also distribute the signed FTDI drivers, which must be installed separately from DMM.
Solution for older DataMates: We have a three-part solution for older DataMates using older drivers other than 64-bit Vista and Windows7.
- Part 1: Install DMM onto a PC running Windows XP or a 32-bit version of Vista or Windows7.
- Part 2: Update the ID on the USB chip.
- Part 3: Install DMM and the latest version of the driver (v2.8.14) (cdm20814) which operates on 32-bit or 64-bit Windows.
Part 1: Download DMM
- If you already have DMM on your PC and can communicate with the DataMate, you can skip this step.
- Download DMM and install onto a PC running 32-bit Windows.
- If you need help with installation of the USB drivers, read this page.
Part 2: Update the ID on the USB Chip
- This must be done on a 32-bit machine with DMM installed.
- Unplug USB devices connected to your PC. Your USB mouse can be left connected.
- Download “usb-update.zip”.
- Unzip the file. This creates a folder called usb-update.
- Open the folder. Navigate to the folder called Mprog.
- Double-click on Mprog.exe
- Choose Device. Then choose Scan. The status window at the bottom should show “Number of Programmed Devices= 1”. That device is the DataMate. If the number of devices is greater than one, there is some other device still connected. Disconnect that device and run the Scan command again.
- Choose File. Then Choose Open. Select DigiDM_FTDI.ept” and click Open.
- Choose Device. Then choose Program. This will program the USB chip. The status window at the bottom should show “Programmed Serial Number SI00BE40”.
- The USB chip has been updated. If you have another DataMate, connect it to perform the same update. Otherwise, choose File - Exit.
Part 3: Install DMM on the 64-bit PC
- Download DMM onto your 64-bit PC. Run the setup program.
- Download this program: cdm20814_setup (v2.8.14) (02/2012) and run it to install the USB drivers.
- Connect the DataMate to your PC.
