Argus Projects

An Argus project holds sensor calibrations, processing instructions, graphs, views, reports, alarms, and data for all the sensors at a project site. All of this information is stored in a secure, central location, where it is immediately available to authorized users.

The Project Page

Each Argus project is assigned a web address. When a user visits that web address, Argus displays the project page. Three examples are shown below. Each project page can be customized by logo graphics. The smaller logo is typically used for the name of the consultant or organization, and the larger logo is used for the name of the project.

The Control Panel

Every project page has a control panel. The control panel lists options for viewing graphs, downloading data, etc. A typical user sees the options below.

User Levels

Options on the control panel vary with the user's permission level. Having different permission levels makes it safe, easy, and practical to share project data with a wide audience. There are three levels: guest, user, and administrator.

The guest level has the most restricted permissions. Guests can view data, make a one-time graph, and manage their own passwords. The user level is for people actively involved in the project. Users have all the guest permissions, but can also confirm alarms, download data, and enter manually-collected data. The administrator level is for top level users. Administrators have access to all features. They can create new projects, add sensors, set up trend plots and plan views, set alarm levels, create reports, and archive data.

Common Questions

Is it difficult to set up an Argus project?

No. Setting up an Argus project is fairly easy. It involves filling out forms for sensor information, graphs, reports, and users. It's easy to make changes, too.

How do new users know they have been added to a project?

Argus automatically emails the user a user name, a password, and a link to the project.

Can a user be added to more than one project?

Yes, a user may be added to one or more projects.

Suppose I have several projects with different owners. Can these owners see the other projects?

No. You'll assign the owner to his own project and not to any other project. When the owner logs in, Argus will show him only that project. He will not see any other projects or know that they exist.

How many projects does Argus allow?

That depends on the version of Argus that you are using:

Argus Central is a ready-to-use web service that offers unlimited projects, though the total number of sensors is limited.

Argus Enterprise, a non-hosted version of Argus, is available in limited and unlimited versions. The limited version supports one project. The unlimited version has no project limits.

Can guests see everything that users and administrators see?

Not necessarily. An administrator can choose which plots, views, and alarms are visible to guests. And administrators have even more fine-grained control of alarms.
